January 27, 2019-Havana-A Night Many Will Not Soon Forget

Seminary Students helping clean the streets in Santo Suarez

After the deadly tornado roared through Havana on, January 27, 2019, Cuba has been in a process of recovery and rebuilding. Several neighborhoods were ravaged by the F-4 Tornado for about 15 minutes and yet during these few minutes, a trail of devastation was left behind. Many people sustained wounds and were treated at local hospitals. The day after the tornado, neighbors began cleaning the streets of debris while trying to put their lives back together. Seeing the need, several churches began cooking hot meals for those whose homes were destroyed. Churches opened their doors and became places of refuge for those who no longer had homes. The Western Baptist Convention of Churches were quick to respond with disaster relief for the tornado victims. On Tuesday, President Dariel Llanes and his leadership team, surveyed damaged areas. The call was sent out to those who were able to come and help. God provided resources and food. Even local celebrities and musicians stepped in and brought food and water to be distributed through the churches to the tornado victims. #BetterTogether #SomosMejoresJuntos #Cuba4Christ
